Common questions

Using My Merchant Desk

Which eBay file should I import?

Use the CSV Transaction report from Seller Hub’s Payments reports area. Choose a date range that covers the financial year or period you want to review. Do not use a bank statement or payout summary.

Can I import more than one report?

Yes. Monthly, quarterly or custom reports can be combined. My Merchant Desk checks strong transaction identifiers and skips rows it has already imported. It also flags less-certain possible duplicates for review.

What if a column is not recognised?

The importer opens a matching step where you can choose the report column for each important field. Buyer-contact columns remain ignored.

Why is profit described as estimated?

The result depends on the costs and business-use details you enter. My Merchant Desk organises the figures but does not determine tax deductibility, GST treatment or your final taxable profit.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Locally saved My Merchant Desk records may be removed. Download a backup regularly and before clearing browser data, changing devices or resetting the browser.

Can my accountant open the export?

Yes. The export is a standard Excel workbook with nine organised sheets, formulas, source references, outstanding checks and a plain-language methodology page.

Do I need an account for the free tools?

No. The buying and offer calculators remain open without signup. An email account is only needed to purchase and use the complete member toolkit.

Privacy & data

Your transaction data stays in your browser.

My Merchant Desk processes imported CSV files on your device and saves the working records in local browser storage. It does not need buyer names, addresses, emails or phone numbers, and those fields are ignored during import.

A paid member account stores only the details needed to identify you and confirm access, such as your email address and membership status. Card details are handled by the secure payment provider and are not stored in the My Merchant Desk toolkit.

The current toolkit does not synchronise transaction records to a My Merchant Desk cloud account. Local browser data can be lost, so backups remain important. You can restore a backup or permanently remove all My Merchant Desk records from that browser.

Important notes

Practical preparation—not tax advice.

My Merchant Desk provides estimates and organises records from the information supplied. It does not determine whether an amount is deductible, calculate a tax liability, lodge a BAS or tax return, or replace advice from a registered tax professional.

eBay fees, report formats and seller circumstances can change. Always compare your figures with Seller Hub and review the exported workbook with your accountant.

My Merchant Desk is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by eBay.
